Martin Batstone Settled a Complaint for Failing to Affirm a Client’s Benificiary Designations

Publicly available records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) on June 12, 2017 indicate that California-based Crown Capital Securities broker/adviser Martin Batstone has received customer disputes and a regulatory sanction. In 2015 a customer alleged Martin Batstone, while employed at Independent Financial Group, breached his fiduciary duty “by allegedly failing to affirm client’s beneficiary designations in writing made former spouse unable to collect distributions upon client’s death, contrary to client’s instructions to registrant.” The complaint settled for $55,000.

In 2010 FINRA sanctioned him following allegations he participated in sales for which he was not an appointed agent and for which his firm did not have selling agreements. He was issued a 10-day suspension and a fine of $5,000.

In 2007 a customer alleged Martin Batstone, while employed at Ameriprise Financial Services, recommended an annuity that lost interest in the year it was not invested. The complaint settled for $5,400.
