In September 2016 FINRA sanctioned Jeffrey Smith in connection to allegations he “he borrowed a total of $300,000 from firm customers to whom he was not related and without receiving the firm’s prior written approval to enter into the loans.” According to FINRA’s complaint: “The findings stated that Smith additionally failed to timely amend his Form U4 to disclose a compromise with a creditor. The findings also stated Smith failed to cooperate fully with an investigation initiated by FINRA Enforcement by declining to provide requested documents and information, specifically personal bank account statements.” Mr. Smith was permanently barred from acting as a broker or otherwise associating with firms that sell securities to the public.
