On June 18, 2020, a client alleged that Carolyn Degirolamo provided incomplete or incorrect tax documents and financial statements. She provided the documents as part of a real estate transaction. The activity in question occurred from May 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017. The client is seeking nearly $1 million in damages: $978,797 to be exact. In her Broker Comment, Carolyn Degirolamo writes, “This is not a securities matter as RR was acting in her CPA capacity to provide historical tax returns and financial statements. Claimant was never the RR’s client. Further, RR asserts their claim that she provided false or inadequate financial statements is false. Claimant sent their accountant to do an in house review of the client’s accounting records and financial statements. There were no irregularities found. Then, as part of RR’s defense where HWLC sued her in civil court, a prominent CPA firm reviewed the financial statements and tax returns again resulting in no changes. The civil court case was dismissed.”
